“Flowers and Foliage was the theme I chose to evolve my works for the first set of my paintings, oil on canvas. I have always been amazed by the way nature evokes an emotion, triggers a memory or even narrate a story in the ethereal arrangements of its elements. These works are my attempt to capture those beautiful moments, narrate that story on canvas, letting my brush emote with paint.." ~ Agnes Rajesh.

“Falling”, indicated maturity, sacrifice, ups and downs of life. A ripened fruit falls to give life again. There’s beauty, happiness and sadness all merged into this one image. You fall, to rise again, that…is the truth and the message.
"Optimistic"

Acrylic on canvas, 22×36 inches (First displayed at the exhibition held at Weaver’s Studio, Kolkatta in October 2014) |
“Optimistic”, this painting with acrylic on canvas of a field of sunflowers epitomises the eternal optimism of the bright yellow blooms. Always looking at the sun, following and never losing sight or hope. Is that mother nature’s message to all of us…?
“Memories”
![]() |
Mixed media on canvas, 22×32 inches (First displayed at the exhibition held at Weaver’s Studio, Kolkatta in October 2014) |
“Memories” is what all of our minds are full with. Of all hues and colours, some lying dormant in the background, fading, blurred and yet some stark, fresh and bright. Some interconnected and some isolated, they all form the canvas of your mind…
"Shy"
![]() |
Oil on canvas, 9×11 inches (First displayed at the exhibition held at Weaver’s Studio, Kolkatta in October 2014, original sold.) |
“Shy”. Remember those days? The childhood, the youth, the courtship days, the love, the romance…Heads bowed, eyes looking down, a hint of a smile on the lips…thats how you fell in love.
"Searching"
![]() |
Oil on canvas, 9×11 inches (First displayed at the exhibition held at Weaver’s Studio, Kolkatta in October 2014) |
“Searching”. Every being lives a life of perennial quest. From an amoeba seeking sunlight to a human seeking knowledge or ‘enlightenment’. Recollect the sight of little birdlings in nest, chirping up a cacophony, necks craned, searching, waiting for the mother to feed? The quest is omnipresent. We’re all searching, for something or the other...always.
"Aroma"
![]() |
Acrylic on canvas, 15×22 inches (First displayed at the exhibition held at Weaver’s Studio, Kolkatta in October 2014, original sold.) |
“Aroma”. Of all sensory capabilities universally known, the sense of smell is the oldest. A smell can evoke fond memories..the mother’s bosom, father’s Old Spiced bristly chin, grandfolks’ kitchen of goodies…The right aroma is mood changing, uplifting. From the hazy background, that one scent rises, above all else. The aroma of freshly brewed coffee on a chilly, misty morning, wafting through the layers of quilt…teasing, enticing. To rise, or to laze? Either way, you're blissfully awake!
"Stark"
![]() |
Acrylic on paper, 11×16 inches (First displayed at the exhibition held at Weaver’s Studio, Kolkatta in October 2014, original sold.) |
“Stark”. Nature has no ambiguities. No uncertainties. There is no imposed moralities of right and wrong and not once was the balance out of sync. The starkness of nature is at odds with the life of the ‘evolved’ human race. We lost the theme of a Black and White life a long while back and now, is helplessly mired in shades of gray. Nature’s strongest species, mankind, has become it’s weakest link in the chain of sustenance.
"Blocked"
![]() |
Oil on canvas, 9×11 inches (First displayed at the exhibition held at Weaver’s Studio, Kolkatta in October 2014) |
And those times when, matters of heart overpowers your mind, pushing everything else into the background. When feelings and emotions rise up to the top, when sense and sensibilities are blocked..

(First displayed at the exhibition held at Weaver’s Studio, Kolkatta in October 2014)
|
“But now faith, hope, love, abide these three; but the greatest of these is love..” The soft, tender and sweet emotion. Love makes the world go round. And love comes in pastels...
“Thoughts” is a pictorial expression of the mind. Filled with thoughts of varying intensities…some bright, some dark, some clear and yet some obscure. Just like the green hues of the leaves dancing in the wind, raking up some memories while pushing a few down into the darker realms…
"Lethargy"
![]() |
Oil on canvas, 9×11 inches
(First displayed at the exhibition held at Weaver’s Studio, Kolkatta in October 2014, original sold.)
|
“Lethargy" depicts the inherent laziness of man. Often lulled into a state of deep boredom or passivity, unaffected by the time rolling by or the greying years. Just as the leaves lay quiet, in the stillness, quietly fading with time, he lounges, while life passes by, struck by lethargy…
"Different"
![]() |
Oil on canvas, 9×11 inches
(First displayed at the exhibition held at Weaver’s Studio, Kolkatta in October 2014, original sold.)
|
“Different” depicts the state of the nomad, the traveller. An endless stream of new places, new people, new experiences…and an endless struggle to fit in, be accepted and not be ‘different’…
"Playful"

(First displayed at the exhibition held at Weaver’s Studio, Kolkatta in October 2014)
|
"Playful" Brightly coloured flowers mingle with the bursting shades of nature in full bloom. This is the time for laughter and gaiety, like children in the garden, brimming with life, playful...
"Nostalgia"
![]() |
Oil on canvas, 14x21 inches
(First displayed at the exhibition held at Weaver’s Studio, Kolkatta in October 2014)

“Nostalgia” Old memories drift in and drift out, like falling autumn leaves, held for a brief moment to the spread out branches of our minds, before it lets go…happy memories, colourful and nostalgic..
"Arise"
![]() |
Oil on canvas, 9×11 inches
(First displayed at the exhibition held at Weaver’s Studio, Kolkatta in October 2014, original sold.)

“Arise” to face the world head on. When the storm has blown itself away and the sky opens to a new day, it’s time to arise, show the world you have survived and how!
"Alone"
![]() |
Oil on canvas, 9×11 inches
(First displayed at the exhibition held at Weaver’s Studio, Kolkatta in October 2014)
|
“Alone” The world around seems covered in blue, you try and search for a helpful face…then tired, and disappointed make a slow retreat. Feeling dejected. Alone.
